Festival da Canção Will Select Portuguese Act in 2021

More news has come out of Portugal this week, as broadcaster RTP confirms the return of Festival da Canção to select the Eurovision 2021 entry. The rules for the 2021 edition have been released, with the competition to feature more artists than in previous years.

A total of 20 acts will be competing at next year’s competition, which is 4 more than in previous years. As we have seen in previous editions, RTP will invite songwriters to present a song for the competition, and it will be up to them whether they perform the song, or find an artist to perform their song. RTP will be inviting 18 songwriters, while the other two will be selected from a public submission, which will be open until the 25th of November. Authors that are either Portuguese or live in Portugal can enter.

Elisa won Festival da Canção 2020 with the song Medo de Sentir, and was set to represent Portugal at Eurovision prior to its cancellation.
